Woman Killed in Collision on 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA, CA (March 28, 2019) – Aldagracia Cruz-Penaloza was killed on the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa as she stood near her car after a collision. While she was waiting near her car, reports say, another vehicle struck her.
The March 27 accident occurred in the freeway’s northbound lanes, close to Fairview Road. The time was roughly 4:45 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cruz-Penaloza had been driving a Toyota and was involved in a collision in which no one was injured. She stopped her vehicle in the freeway’s number one lane. The other vehicle involved in the crash pulled off to the freeway’s right shoulder.
Reports say that Cruz-Penaloza, and a person who had been traveling with her as a passenger, exited their vehicle. As they stood at the back end of their vehicle, another vehicle—described as a Audi—struck their vehicle and Cruz-Penaloza. Reports say the injuries she suffered were fatal. She was identified as 42 years old.
The impact of the crash shoved the Toyota into the freeway’s number 3 lane, which caused another crash. A Chevrolet was struck, reports say.
The passenger who had been with Cruz-Penaloza, and the person who had been driving the Chevrolet, suffered injuries the were described as minor. Responders transported the victims to a hospital in the area. The identities of the victims have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Audi—identified as a man 43 years old—was not hurt, reports say. The man’s name and city of residence have not been reported. Investigators are examining the details and information.
