Man Killed in Two-vehicle Collision on 15 Freeway in Corona

CORONA, CA (May 29, 2019) – George Mouratidis was killed in a two-vehicle collision early on Sunday morning on the 15 Freeway in Corona. The May 26 incident occurred in the southbound lanes of the freeway, close to Dos Lagos Drive and to the south of it.

The time was roughly 4:15 a.m., according to Sergeant B. Arendt. Arendt is with the California Highway Patrol.

According to Arendt, one of the vehicles—described as a BMW 630i—had been traveling at a high rate of speed. The BMW struck the back of another vehicle, described as a Toyota Tacoma. The impact sent each of the vehicles out of the driver’s control, and into the divider in the center of the freeway. Arendt said that neither vehicle had a passenger aboard, and the driver of each vehicle had been wearing a seat belt.

Respondents arrived and pronounced Mouratidis deceased at the site of the incident. He had been the driver of the pickup truck. He was later identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. Mouratidis was 56 years old and a resident of Lake Elsinore.

The person who had been driving the BMW was identified as Lissete Salazar, 21 years old and a resident of Lake Elsinore. Arendt said that Salazar was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.

Investigators are continuing their work into the examination of the incident. If anyone has information, he or she should contact the Riverside Area California Highway Patrol. The number is 909-428-5400.
