Conrad Harron, Chicago’s best high school tennis player, is returning to the court after his near-death experience in a horrible car accident in 2007. He was 13-years-old at the time. Harron ended up on life support and in coma after the crash. But he survived and he is now back to fighting shape, hoping to regain the state title this year. He is ranked the No. 1 player in the country by the United States Tennis Association, which he was ranked when he was 12-years-old.
He has not stopped since the accident. The moment he awoke from the devastating two-week coma, he wondered how many players were passing him in the national rankings while he was down and out.
The accident occurred in December 2007. An SUV pummeled the rental vehicle he was riding in. The tennis player shot head first into his dad’s head and cracked his left eye socket. Harron was on a trip to the Everglades with his father at the time.
“The thought of burying a child is horrendous, and I don’t think I ever thought he would die. He was given at best a 50-50 chance of surviving the injuries, but I always believed he would fight and he would succeed,” Harron’s dad said.
Harron is well and thriving nowadays with no severe effects lingering from the traumatic accident.
