Suspected Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Crash, Three Injured in Compton
COMPTON, CA (June 25, 2019) – After pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle, three people were injured in a crash in Compton on Monday morning. The June 24 incident occurred where Long Beach Boulevard and Compton Boulevard intersect.
The time was a little before 10:00 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Reports say authorities had been pursuing a vehicle that was suspected stolen. The suspected stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle during the pursuit. Reports say that one of the vehicles had overturned on its side, but it is not clear which vehicle that was.
Both of the vehicles which were involved in the collision had heavy damage, and a fire hydrant was broken. Wreckage from the vehicles was scattered in the street and sidewalk. Neither of the vehicles has been described.
The person who is suspected of driving the stolen vehicle was identified as a man in his thirties. His name and city of residence have not been reported. According to Luis Hernandez, who is a battalion chief with the Compton Fire Department, the suspect suffered injuries that were described as moderate. Responders transported him to a hospital.
Inside the vehicle that the suspect vehicle hit was a man who was described as in his fifties. The man was reported to have suffered injuries described as moderate. Responders took the injured man to a hospital. His name and city of residence have not been reported. His current condition is not known.
A person who had been waiting at a bus stop—identified as a woman between the ages of 65 and 70—was hurt when debris from the collision hit her. Her injuries were described as minor. The name and city of residence of the woman have not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand the incident. No details are known from reports on where the pursuit began.
