Joel Perales Struck and Killed While Delivering Mail in Commerce
COMMERCE, CA (December 4, 2018) – Joel Perales was hit and killed in the morning on Monday while he was delivering mail on his route in Commerce. The December 3 accident occurred on South Atlantic Boulevard in the 2100 block, according to Lieutenant Mejia, who is with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The time was roughly 10:00 a.m.
According to reports, Perales had been in the rear of his postal truck, and was taking out the items he was about to deliver. A vehicle, that reports say had gone out of control, hit him.
A vehicle—described as a white coupe—was wedged beneath the rear of the postal truck, and the postal truck had crashed into the back of a container truck, as revealed on video. Joel Perales was caught against the semi parked on the street when his mail truck was struck and shoved sideways, according to Adrian Perales. Adrian is the nephew of Joel Perales.
Reports say that a building was also damaged in the collision. A person who had been inside suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to officials. The name of the victim has not yet been published, nor the types of injuries suffered.
Joel Perales, 58 years old, had worked for 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service, his family recounted.
Investigators are looking into the details, information, and evidence to find out what caused the accident.
