Bicyclist Struck and Killed on McKinley Avenue Near Clovis
CLOVIS, CA (August 14, 2019) – A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a minor on Tuesday morning near Clovis. The August 13 incident occurred on McKinley Avenue close to Temperance Avenue.
The time was roughly 8:00 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The bicyclist—identified as a man—had been riding on the shoulder of the road and heading west, according to James Del Carlo. Del Carlo is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.
As the victim was riding the bicycle, a vehicle—described as a Toyota Sienna minivan—hit him. The minivan, according to Del Carlo, had also been heading westbound, traveling behind the bicyclist.
For reasons that are not known, the person driving the minivan went onto the road’s shoulder and hit the man on the bicycle. The impact of the collision threw the man from the bicycle. He died at the accident site. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
The driver of the minivan was identified only as a minor. Four other occupants of the vehicle were also minors, according to Del Carlo. The occupants of the minivan suffered injuries that were described as minor.
Investigators are working to gather information to understand why the crash happened.
