Both Drivers Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on 5 Freeway in Chula Vista
Chula Vista, CA (April 10, 2024) – A devastating wrong-way collision on the 5 Freeway in Chula Vista resulted in the loss of two lives early Wednesday morning, April 10. The accident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m. near Camino de la Plaza, involved a 67-year-old woman and a 16-year-old teen driver.
Woman Driving To Fast In The Wrong Direction Slammed Into A Dodge Challenger Head On
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the woman, a resident of San Diego, was driving a Honda Civic at a high speed in the wrong direction when she crashed head-on into a Dodge Challenger driven by the teen from Imperial Beach. The impact caused the Dodge to burst into flames, trapping both drivers inside their vehicles.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but tragically, both drivers succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of their families.
A Toxicology Report Is Pending In The Investigation of This Accident
The CHP is investigating the accident, and a toxicology report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
