Chula Vista, CA (November 14, 2023) – Tragedy struck on the 5 Freeway in the early hours of Saturday, November 11, as a rollover accident resulted in the loss of one life.
1 Killed in Rollover Accident on 5 Freeway at E Street
The fatal incident unfolded at approximately 3:02 a.m. near E Street, leaving investigators to piece together the details of a grim scene. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a black SUV, traveling at an excessive speed along the northbound lanes of the freeway, lost control and collided with the right shoulder. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, amplifying the complexity of the incident for responding officers.
Electrical Pole Knocked Down By Impact, Exposing Wires
Tragically, paramedics arriving at the scene pronounced at least one person dead. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently withholding the victim’s identity pending family notification.
The intensity of the collision was further evident as a pole supporting an electrical box was knocked down, leaving exposed wires in the aftermath.
