Driver Displays Gun After Hitting Woman’s Vehicle in Chula Vista
CHULA VISTA, CA (April 10, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday, a man who crashed into a woman’s vehicle in Chula Vista displayed a gun and fled the scene. The April 9 incident occurred on Main Street.
The time was roughly 7:30 a.m., Chula Vista Police said.
Reports say a woman–identified as a postal worker–had been traveling to work when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle, described as a Ford.
The person driving the vehicle that hit the woman’s vehicle did not stop, and she followed. At a dead-end in the road, she drove up behind the vehicle to obtain and give information about their respective insurance.
The Ford’s driver–described as a man–is reported to have lifted his shirt to show that he was carrying a gun in the waistband of his pants. The woman retreated and the man left the scene.
According to reports, the woman was talking to police on her phone at the time the man displayed the gun. Officers responded and looked for the man in the area and also used a drone to search for him.
The vehicle the man had been driving was abandoned on El Monte Avenue. Authorities discovered the vehicle had been reported as stolen from National City, and did not belong to the suspect.
Investigators are searching for the suspect, who has not been described. They are collecting information regarding the incident.
The identity of the woman whose vehicle was struck has not been reported.
The owner of the stolen vehicle has also not been identified in reports.
