Man Killed in Multi-vehicle Collision on State Route 91 in Cerritos

CERRITOS, CA (August 8, 2019) – A collision on State Route 91 in Cerritos early in the morning on Wednesday, in which multiple vehicles were involved sequentially, killed Raymond Ruvalcaba. The August 7 incident occurred on the eastbound side of the road, near Pioneer Boulevard and to the west of it.

The time was a bit after midnight, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Reports say a vehicle, described as a Toyota Sienna, went out of the driver’s control for reasons that are not known, and smashed into a concrete divider in the center of the road. According to reports, the driver left the vehicle, and it was unoccupied in the HOV lane when a Ford Expedition struck it.

Ruvalcaba, who was riding a motorcycle, hit the Toyota after the Ford hit it. The impact threw him from the bike.

Responders arrived and transported Ruvalcaba to a hospital. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital. Ruvalcaba was 29 years old.

The person who had been driving the Toyota, identified as 21-year-old Luis Rivera Hernandez, suffered injuries that were described as minor.

The person who had been driving the Ford was reported uninjured. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

Investigators are continuing to search for details, facts, and evidence to understand why the crash happened. If anyone has information regarding the incident, he or she should call Officer J.
