Burning Car Near I-5 in Castaic Area Ignites Wildfire
CASTAIC, CA (August 5, 2019) – A burning car located beside I-5 in the Castaic area set off a wildfire that consumed 156 acres and was still burning as of Sunday morning. The incident began Saturday afternoon, August 3, near Castaic and to the north of it. The ignition spot was near Templin Highway and roughly two miles north of it.
The time was approximately 1:00 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol shut down two lanes of I-5.
Reports say a car that was sitting beside the freeway had burned. It is not known what caused the vehicle to ignite. No details are known regarding the identity of the person who had been driving the vehicle.
The car was reported to have started the wildfire, which was called the Five Fire. Vegetation burned in the Angeles National Forest and in areas of Los Angeles County that are unincorporated, reports say.
Fire crews worked throughout the night to put the fire out. It was still burning as of Sunday morning. According to reports, no one was hurt in the incident. Investigators are working to understand what caused the car to catch fire.
