Man Killed When Car Crashes into Crowd During Carson Illegal Street Racing
CARSON, CA (December 28, 2020) – In the early afternoon on Christmas Day in Carson, a vehicle crashed into a crowd of spectators during an illegal street race. One man died, and three other people were injured in the December 25 incident.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the victim as Daniel Patten II, a resident of Long Beach, 66 years old.
The illegal street race occurred on 230th Street in the 900 block. The time was roughly 1:30 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
According to Sergeant Wendland, who is with the Carson station of the Sheriff’s Department, hundreds of spectators and cars had gathered for an illegal street race. Two vehicles–described only as a black sedan and a blue sedan–crashed. One of the vehicles hit as many as four people. Patten was killed.
The identities of the three people who were injured have not been reported. The types of injuries they suffered is not known.
The drivers involved in the crash have also not been identified, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence.
Investigators are continuing to work on the incident.
