Tractor-trailer Crashes on Highway 101 in Carpinteria, Causing Damage
CARPINTERIA, CA (February 3, 2021) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in Carpinteria, a big rig crashed on Highway 101, causing damage. The February 2 incident occurred in an area near Santa Ynez Avenue.
The time was a little before 5:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The vehicle–described as a Freightliner tractor-trailer–had been heading northbound on Highway 101. According to the California Highway Patrol, the big rig went to the roadway’s right side.
The truck hit the guardrail and part of the over-crossing, constructed of concrete.
The truck traveled into the shoulder on the right side of the roadway, and crashed through a fence that is a barrier behind houses. The rig ended up on Cramer Circle in a driveway.
The trailer portion of the rig overturned onto its side and ended up on the right shoulder of the road.
Responders arrived and transported the driver to Cottage Hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as minor.
He was identified only as a resident of Mexicali, Mexico, 26 years old. His name has not been reported.
The crash led to a traffic snarl in Ventura County and Santa Barbara County.
Investigators are working on understanding the details of the crash, and they are continuing to gather information.
