Three Vehicles Crash on I-5 in Carlsbad; One Person Killed
CARLSBAD, CA (April 6, 2021) – Early in the morning on Sunday in Carlsbad, three vehicles crashed in a chain reaction on I-5. The April 4 incident, which occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, killed one person.
The time was a little after 4:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
In an area near Tamarack Avenue and to the south of it, a vehicle–described as a Hyundai–went spinning, and smashed into the center divider. No details have been reported on why the first crash happened. The driver of the Hyundai–identified only as 23 years old–may have been thrown from the vehicle.
After the first crash, two vehicles–described as a Volkswagen Passat and a Honda Accord–hit the Hyundai, and the Hyundai’s driver.
Responders arrived and pronounced the Hyundai’s driver deceased at the crash site. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person driving the Volkswagen was identified only as 64 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported. Reports say he suffered injuries that were described as minor.
The person driving the Honda was identified as 18 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported. His injuries were also described as minor.
Investigators are working to understand the crash; they are currently collecting details and information.
