Head-on Collision on Alicante Road in Carlsbad Causes Serious Injuries
CARLSBAD, CA (December 30, 2020) – Early in the afternoon on Tuesday, a head-on collision in Carlsbad caused serious injuries. The December 29 incident occurred on Alicante Road, near Tanzanite Drive and to the south of it.
The time was roughly 12:41 p.m., according to Christie Calderwood. Calderwood is a lieutenant with Carlsbad Police.
Two SUV vehicles–described as a Dodge Durango and a Honda CR-V–crashed head on. According to Calderwood, the Honda CR-V had been heading north on Alicante Road and going at a fast speed. The Honda went into the lane of opposing traffic, and collided head on with the Dodge Durango.
Responders transported the driver of the Honda to a hospital in the area. He suffered injuries that were described as severe.
He was identified only as 62 years old, and a resident of Carlsbad. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Durango suffered injuries that were described as minor, according to Calderwood. He was identified as a resident of Oceanside, 44 years old. His name has not been reported.
Each driver had been the sole occupant of the vehicle when the crash occurred.
Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the crash.
