San Diego Car and John Deere UTV Collide in University City Area

SAN DIEGO, CA (January 10, 2023) – Early in the morning on Friday in San Diego, a crash in the neighborhood of University City caused serious injuries. The January 6 crash occurred in the vicinity of Executive Square and Genesee Avenue.
Car and John Deere UTV Collide, Causing Serious Injuries in University City Area of San Diego
The time was roughly 6:00 a.m., David O’Brien said. O’Brien is a watch commander with San Diego Police.
According to police, a utility vehicle, described as a John Deere Gator tractor, was traveling on Executive Square and heading west.
A vehicle–described as a Honda Civic–was traveling on Genesee Avenue and heading south.
The two vehicles collided, reports say, and the passenger who was traveling in the John Deere vehicle was thrown from it.
Responders transported the passenger from the tractor to the hospital. He suffered injuries that were described as serious.
The types of injuries he suffered, and his current condition, are not known.
He was identified only as 75 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders also transported the driver of the John Deere tractor to the hospital. He suffered injuries that were described as minor.
He was identified only as 52 years old. His name and city of residence are not known from reports.
The person who was driving the Honda remained at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation.
He was identified only as 19 years old. Reports also not state his name and city of residence.
It is not known if the driver of the Honda was hurt in the crash.
Investigators are at work to understand the crash, why it happened, and what factors or circumstances may have been involved.

Don’t allow distractions to interrupt your focus when you are driving. To stay focused on driving, do this:
- Always keep your attention on your driving. Do not multi-task.

- If a car is following too closely behind you, change lanes if possible to allow that car to pass.
Have a Driving Plan
Giving yourself extra time when you plan to go somewhere will help reduce the urge to travel too fast.
- Extra travel time will give you a cushion if you encounter traffic backups and slowdowns, or other delays on the roadway.
- Plan travel stops on longer trips to give yourself time to use facilities such as restrooms. Give yourself time to stop and eat when you need to.
Exercise Caution and Safety
- Prepare your vehicle for travel before you set out. Make sure items you are carrying in your vehicle are secure before you start to drive so they don’t move around inside while you are driving.
- If something falls on the floor, do not try to pick it up while you are driving.
- Make sure everything you need while you are driving is reachable, such as toll cards and fees, and other passes.
- Wear a seatbelt.
- Drive sober.
