San Diego Car and Skateboarder Crash on Nimitz Boulevard in Ocean Beach Area; Rider Critically Injured
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 7, 2021) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in San Diego, a car and a skateboarder crashed, critically injuring the rider. The October 5 crash occurred in the area of Ocean Beach, on Nimitz Boulevard.
The time was roughly 7:45 a.m., San Diego Police said.
The vehicle had been traveling on Nimitz Boulevard and heading south, authorities said, and came to the West Point Loma Boulevard intersection on a green light.
The skateboarder had been traveling on Nimitz and heading north. Police suspect the skateboarder traveled into the intersection and made a turn in the path of the oncoming vehicle on a light that was red, reports say.
The vehicle struck the skateboarder. Responders arrived and transported the patient to UC San Diego Medical Center.
He suffered injuries that were described as life threatening. His current condition is not known.
He was identified only as 27 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The driver was identified only as 63 years old. His name and city of residence have also not been reported.
Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the crash.
