Bumble Bee Tuna Recalls Products over Concern about Seal Tightness

Posted on March 8, 2013 | Written By: iadminlaw

Bumble Bee Foods has recalled cans of tuna because of an issue with the seal. The tuna fish company markets their flaky fish as a snack or quick lunch. They issued a voluntary recall for 5-ounce cans of Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna products due to incorrect seals. According to the Food and Drug Administration, the seals do not meet the company’s standards for tightness.

According to the company, there have been no health issues or illnesses reported from the use of the tuna cans. The recall is voluntary because the company wants to ascertain that the product has not been damaged or is not up to par due to the fact that seal is not tight.

The FDA stated that loose seals can lead to contamination from bacteria. Food poisoning is among the illnesses that are attributed to bacteria that is ingested with food. Also, the freshness and quality of the product would be compromised with the loose seals.

The cans were in stores between Jan. 17 and Feb. 28 and were distributed nationwide. Consumers should throw away any of the cans that they may have in the possession still. They are urged to contact the company if they have been affected by the products. The company has released the specific code numbers including UPC labels, lot codes and best buy codes for the products that were affected by the malfunctioning seals.
