Driver Leads Police on Pursuit from Whittier; Crashes Stolen Car in Brea
BREA, CA (January 28, 2019) – A driver led police on a chase from Whittier to Brea in the evening on Sunday, before crashing a stolen car. The January 27 accident ended on Lambert Road in Orange County.
According to Jorge Marchena, who is a lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies began to pursue the vehicle at roughly 7:20 p.m. A deputy had spotted a vehicle—described as a Honda Civic—which had earlier that day been reported stolen. The Honda was spotted in the vicinity of Trumball Street and Mills Avenue.
Deputies began to pursue the vehicle after the driver would not stop and pull over. The pursuit was abandoned in Orange County out of concern for safety. According to Marchena, deputies kept watch on the stolen vehicle. The stolen Honda struck another vehicle, and smashed into a sign made of concrete located on Lambert Road, near Berry Street.
Marchena said the suspect driver was trapped in the Honda after the collision. Respondents arrived on scene to remove the woman from the stolen vehicle. Reports say she may face charges of suspicion of auto theft and evading police.
According to the lieutenant, no one was injured in the vehicle that the suspect’s car struck. The identities of the people who had been traveling in that vehicle have not yet been reported.
The identity of the suspect driver has not been reported, including her name, age, and city of residence. Investigators are examining the information and details regarding the theft, chase, and auto collisions.
