Crash on Brea Canyon Road Near Brea Kills One, Injures Another

BREA, CA (March 26, 2020) – On Friday morning, a crash near Brea killed one person and injured another. The March 20 incident occurred on Brea Canyon Road, near the Orange and Los Angeles county line.

The time was roughly 8:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports say a vehicle—described as a Honda Civic—had been traveling south on Brea Canyon road and, for reasons that are not known, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control, according to John DeMatteo. DeMatteo is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

The Honda traveled off the roadway, then traveled back onto the road surface. The Honda veered into the lane of opposing traffic and collided with another vehicle, described as a Nissan van.

Responders arrived and found that the person who had been driving the Honda died at the incident site. The victim, who was identified as in his 60s, was a resident of Walnut. His name has not been reported.

The person who had been the driver of the Nissan suffered injuries that were described as minor. He was identified only as 45 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.

Investigators are working on understanding why the crash happened, and what factors were involved.
