Boy, 18 months old, Dies after Being Struck in North Hills Crash; Woman Seriously Injured
NORTH HILLS, CA (October 18, 2021) – Early in the morning on Sunday in North Hills, a boy–18 months old–was struck and fatally injured in a crash. A woman was seriously injured in the October 17 crash, which occurred on West Nordhoff Street in the 15500 block.
The time was roughly 7:35 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A vehicle–described as a Honda CRV–had been traveling on Nordhoff and going westbound. As the Honda was turning to the left, it collided with a vehicle, described as a Toyota Camry, authorities said.
Police said the driver of the Toyota did not remain at the crash site.
According to people who witnessed the incident, one of the vehicles went over the curb and hit the boy who was in a stroller on the street corner. Los Angeles Police said the vehicle was the Honda CRV.
A woman who was standing at the corner was also struck.
Responders transported the injured boy to a hospital. He died in the hospital, Anthony Delatore said. Delatore is an officer with Los Angeles Police.
The boy’s family has not been identified in reports. Reports do not say if the grandparents were hurt in the crash.
Responders also transported the woman to the hospital. She suffered injuries that were described as serious.
Her identity has not been reported. She was not related to the boy, reports say.
Neither driver has been identified in reports. Los Angeles Police said the driver who was being sought appeared at the Valley Traffic Division Station voluntarily on Sunday late in the afternoon. The person cooperated with investigators, reports say.
The investigation is continuing.
