Bicyclist Struck and Killed on State Route 76 in Bonsall

BONSALL, CA (December 12, 2019) – On Wednesday morning, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle in Bonsall. The December 11 incident occurred on State Route 76, close to where Thoroughbred Lane is located.

The time was a little before 10:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports say the bicyclist had been traveling south on the highway and a vehicle—described as an Infiniti—which had been traveling in the same direction, hit him.

Responders arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the incident site. He was identified only as 63 years old, and a resident of Colorado, according to Mark Latulippe, who is a public-affairs officer with the California Highway Patrol. The victim’s name has not been reported.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a man 19 years old and a resident of Riverside.

According to Latulippe, investigators are working to find out how the crash happened. It is not known if the cyclist was traveling in a bicycle lane when the incident occurred.
