Murrieta, CA – A bee enters the cab of a big rig Thursday afternoon causing the driver to crash into a high school parking lot.
The driver was heading southbound on Interstate-15 when a bee entered the cab of the big rig. In an attempt to swoosh the bee out he lost traction of the vehicle. He then veered in the direction of the Calvary Chapel High School parking lot through oncoming traffic to avoid crashing with other vehicles on the highway. The crash was reported at about 3:00 p.m. near Riverside.
The big rig smashed through a guard rail, went up an embankment, crashed through the parking lot fence, knocked over a tree and broke off a light pole. A Ford truck belonging to a staff member was slightly damaged by the tree that was knocked over. The big rig’s fuel tank erupted but did not catch fire.
There were no reported injuries.
Passing by highway drivers slowed traffic while they inspected the scene from their car. Authorities did not close lanes to the freeway but issued a traffic alert for north- and southbound lanes. Hazmat cleaned the spilled fuel and tow trucks helped pull the big rig from the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
