Barstow 2 Car Accident Leaves Man, 65, Dead On 15 Freeway

1 Dead, 2 Injured in 2-Car Crash Near Afton Canyon Road
Barstow, CA (February 14, 2024) – A tragic two-car accident on the 15 Freeway near Afton Canyon Road resulted in one fatality and minor injuries to two others.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Barstow Office reported that the collision occurred around 12:47 p.m. on Wednesday. According to initial investigations, a 65-year-old man from Buena Park attempted to pass a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox but struck the vehicle while merging back into the No. 1 lane for reasons yet unknown.
Victim Made A Poor Lane Change and Lost Control of His GMC Sierra Truck
The impact caused the man’s 2002 GMC Sierra to lose control, overturn, and then re-enter the median before coming to a stop. The driver was fully ejected from the vehicle and tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities noted that the GMC’s safety restraint system was inactive at the time of the crash.
Emergency medical services arrived promptly, transporting a 49-year-old female passenger from the GMC and the 22-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Victims Identity Will Be Released After A Thorough Investigation
While alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the collision, traffic investigators are working to determine the exact cause. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office will release the victim’s identity once confirmed.
