Police Cruiser Fatally Strikes Pedestrian in Downtown Bakersfield
Bakersfield, CA (June 17, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred early Monday on Union Avenue near Casa Loma Drive, where a pedestrian was hit and killed by a police vehicle.
The Bakersfield Police Department reported that the accident happened as two officers were responding to a call for service in the downtown area. Their northbound vehicle struck a pedestrian on the road.

Despite immediate medical aid, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene. One of the officers sustained minor injuries in the crash. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the police vehicle’s lights and sirens were not activated at the time of the collision, suggesting it was not operating under Code 3.
