BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 17, 2022) – On Monday in Bakersfield, a head-on crash on Highway 178 killed a person. The June 13 crash occurred near Rancheria Road and to the east of it.
According to the California Highway Patrol, reports say, a vehicle–described as a Tesla–had been traveling on Highway 178 and going eastbound.
For reasons that are not known, the Tesla went over the center lines and into the lane of opposing traffic.
The Tesla collided with an oncoming vehicle, described as a Ford.
A passenger who had been traveling in the Ford died at the crash site. She was identified only as a resident of Kernville.
Her name and age have not been reported.
The Ford’s driver suffered injuries that were described as minor. The identity of the driver is not known.
The person who was driving the Tesla was not hurt in the crash, according to reports.
The Tesla driver’s identity is not known from reports.
Investigators are working to understand the crash, and they are collecting details and information for that effort.
