Head-On Crash on Hwy 43 Leaves 2 Dead in Bakersfield
Bakersfield, CA (May 12, 2024) – A devastating head-on collision on Highway 43 claimed the lives of two individuals early Sunday morning on May 12. The fatal accident occurred around 3:34 a.m., just north of Pond Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a northbound Honda on Highway 43 veered left out of its lane, directly into the path of a southbound Dodge. Despite efforts by the 58-year-old Dodge driver to avoid the Honda, a collision was unavoidable, resulting in a tragic head-on crash. Three passengers were inside the Dodge at the time of the incident.
Both Victims Were Pronounced Dead At The Scene By First Responders
Tragically, both the Honda driver and a 69-year-old passenger in the Dodge sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge and the two other passengers sustained moderate injuries and were rushed to Kern Medical Hospital for treatment.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office has withheld the identities of the deceased pending notification of their families. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
