Crash involving SUV and Big Rig Kills One on Kimberlina Road In Bakersfield, CA
BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 22, 2022) – Early in the morning on Friday in Bakersfield, a crash involving a big rig and an SUV killed a person. The May 20 crash occurred on Kimberlina Road, near Highway 43 and to the east of it.
The time was roughly 5:57 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
According to authorities, a vehicle–described as a Ford Explorer–had been traveling on Kimberlina Road and heading eastbound. The Ford veered into the lane of opposing traffic for reasons that are not known.
The SUV collided with a big rig that had been in the westbound lane.
Reports say the big rig tried to miss the collision, but the two vehicles collided.
The force of the crash sent the big rig to overturn and a fuel tank broke as well as a cargo tank. Diesel fuel poured out.
Responders arrived and transported the person who was driving the Ford to Kern Medical for help. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital.
His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, have not been reported.
The person who was driving the big rig suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person’s identity has also not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can call the Bakersfield Area Office of the California Highway Patrol.
