BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 7, 2019) – A man who was in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a vehicle in Bakersfield in the morning on Tuesday. The February 5 accident happened where Rosedale Highway and Calloway Drive intersect.
Reports say that the man who was in the wheelchair had been crossing the road while within a marked crosswalk when the vehicle hit him. Responders arrived on scene and took the victim to a hospital in the area where he was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim—including his name, age, and city of residence—have not yet been reported.
Police said that the person who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Police do not think that alcohol, drugs, or the speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident played a role.
