Head-on Collision on DiGiorgio Road Injures Seven in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 14, 2019) – Seven people were injured Monday night in a head-on collision involving an alleged drunk driver in Bakersfield. The August 13 incident occurred on DiGiorgio Road close to Cottonwood Road.

Reports say a vehicle—described as a GMC Sierra—had been heading eastbound on DiGiorgio Road. The GMC went over the center divider, and collided with another vehicle—described as a Dodge Charger.

Responders arrived to help the victims. The driver of the GMC was identified as Eduardo Blanco, 27 years old. The injuries Blanco suffered included a broken femur.

Also injured in the vehicle that Blanco had been driving were three children. A child four years of age and a child 9 years of age suffered injuries that were described as minor. A child three years of age suffered a broken femur and arm. Responders transported her by airlift to Valley Children’s Hospital located in Madera.

Five people had been traveling in the Dodge. The person who had been driving the Dodge suffered a cut face and broken legs. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

A passenger in the Dodge, identified only as a woman, also suffered a cut face and broken legs. Her name, age, and city of residence has not been reported.

An infanct 9 months of age who was also in the Dodge suffered injuries that included bleeding on the brain, reports say. Responders transported the infant by airlift to Valley Children’s Hospital located in Madera.

Authorities arrested Blanco on suspicion of driving under the influence. No other details are known at this time. Investigators are continuing their work of gathering information and evidence.
