BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 26, 2019) – A car struck and injured a bicyclist in Bakersfield on Tuesday night, causing serious injuries. The July 23 incident occurred on Baker Street in the 200 block.

The time was roughly 9:20 p.m., according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Reports say a bicyclist had been traveling northbound on Baker Street, and a car—which had been traveling southbound—hit her. Responders arrived and transported the victim to a hospital in the area. The injuries she suffered were described as major, and her condition is critical.

The identity of the woman—including her name, age, and city of residence—has not been reported.

According to reports, authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver was identified as Luis Antonio Gomez, 55 years old. The vehicle involved in the incident has not been described.
