Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck by Hit-and-run Driver on Oak Street in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 10, 2020) – Early in the morning on Tuesday, a bicyclist died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Bakersfield. The July 7 incident occurred on Oak Street in the 300 block.

The time was roughly 5:15 a.mn., according to Bakersfield Police.

Reports say a vehicle struck a person who had been riding a bicycle and pulling a shopping cart. The driver did not stay to help the victim, but fled the incident site.

Responders arrived to help. The victim died at the crash site. The identity of the victim, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

Authorities provided a description of the vehicle they suspect was involved in the incident. It may be a brown-colored, GMC Sierra pickup truck.

Investigators are searching for the suspect driver, and the vehicle involved in the incident.
