Bakersfield 2 Year Old Killed In Car Accident on King Street

Infant Killed in Car Crash in Bakersfield, CA

Bakersfield, CA (April 2, 2023) – On Sunday afternoon, a serious accident involving two vehicles occurred at the intersection of King Street and Niles Street in east Bakersfield, resulting in severe injuries to a two-year-old child.

The collision took place at approximately 12:30 p.m. on April 2, when a sedan traveling westbound on Niles Street collided with a pickup truck that had stopped at the intersection with King Street before crossing the same street.

The pickup truck rolled multiple times before coming to a stop on the south sidewalk on Niles Street. Meanwhile, the sedan hit a utility pole and sheared it at the base before coming to a halt.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered the toddler seated in a forward-facing child safety seat in the sedan with significant injuries. The child is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, while the other individuals involved in the accident sustained minor injuries.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have requested anyone with additional information to contact them at 661-327-7111.

What Are the Best Ways to Keep a Small Child Safe in a Car?

As a car accident Legal expert, I can provide you with some general guidelines to keep a small child safe in a car. However, it’s important to note that different states may have different laws and regulations on child car safety. It’s always best to check with your local authorities and follow their guidelines.

Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind:

  1. Use a proper child safety seat: Choose a car seat that is appropriate for your child’s age, weight, and height. Ensure that the seat is installed correctly and tightly secured in the car.
  2. Rear-facing car seats: Infants and young children should ride in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat of the car until they are at least 2 years old or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer.
  3. Forward-facing car seats: Once your child outgrows the rear-facing car seat, use a forward-facing car seat with a harness in the back seat until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer.
  4. Booster seats: When your child outgrows the forward-facing car seat, use a booster seat in the back seat until the seat belt fits properly. The seat belt should fit across the child’s shoulder and chest and not across their neck or face. The lap belt should fit across the child’s upper thighs and not their stomach.
  5. Seat belts: Once your child has outgrown the booster seat, they can use the car’s seat belt in the back seat. Make sure the seat belt fits properly, with the lap belt across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt across the chest and collarbone.
  6. Never leave a child alone in a car: It’s never safe to leave a child alone in a car, even for a few minutes. Children can quickly overheat or be at risk of injury or abduction.
  7. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions: Always read the manufacturer’s instructions for the car seat and follow them carefully. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the manufacturer or a certified child passenger safety technician for assistance.

Remember, the most important thing you can do to keep your child safe in a car is to always use a car seat or booster seat that is appropriate for your child’s age, weight, and height, and to make sure that the seat is installed correctly and securely.
