L.A. County Sheriff’s Bus Hits and Kills Pedestrian on I-5 in Arleta
ARLETA, CA (August 31, 2020) – Early in the morning on Monday in Arleta, an inmate transport bus for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department struck and killed a pedestrian. The August 31 incident occurred on I-5 on the northbound side of the freeway, close to Osborne Street.
The time was roughly 3:20 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
It is not clear from reports where the person had been walking on the freeway when the bus struck. The person died. The identity of the pedestrian, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The person driving the bus was the sole occupant of the vehicle when the incident occurred, according to the Sheriff’s Department. it is not known if the driver was hurt in the crash. The driver’s identity has also not been reported.
Investigators are working to collect details and information related to the crash. It is not known why the pedestrian was in the freeway lanes. No other information has yet been reported.
