Escondido Teenager Identified as Person Killed in Crash
ESCONDIDO, CA (July 5, 2022) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the teen victim who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver last week in Escondido.
He was Anthony Francisco Lopez Vega, 14 years old.
Vega and his cousin were walking from a family member’s house, according to authorities.
At roughly 9:30 p.m., a vehicle–described as an SUV, black in color–struck Vega as he walked across the road where Grand Avenue and Bear Valley Parkway intersect.
The person who was driving the vehicle fled the crash site without helping Vega.
Responders transported the young victim to the hospital; he was pronounced deceased in the hospital.
On the day following the crash, Escondido Police arrested Jon Edwin Kiesel, 70 years old, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can call Paul Smyth, who is an officer.
