One Person Killed in Big Rig Crash on 5 Freeway in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, CA (March 13, 2019) – One person was killed in a crash involving a big rig on the 5 Freeway in Anaheim early in the morning on Wednesday. The March 13 accident occurred in the freeway’s southbound lanes, close to Euclid Street, the California Highway Patrol said.

The time was roughly a bit before 3:00 a.m.

Reports say that a big rig rolled over, blocking the lane for carpool, and a vehicle—described as a sedan—blocked another lane. The driver of the truck—identified as Alex Herrera—was reported to have said that he felt the collision, and then he felt the truck turning slowly. The truck went over on its side, and slid toward the divider in the center of the freeway. Reports say that Herrera was not hurt in the accident.

Respondents from Anaheim Fire & Rescue worked to extricate the person who had been driving the sedan. A person who had been traveling as a passenger in the sedan was pronounced deceased at the accident scene. The identities of the driver and passenger in the sedan—including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence—have not been reported.

It is not known from reports why the collision happened. Investigators are looking into the information and details to understand the sequence of events that led to the crash.
