Driver Hits Bus’ Rear End, Injuring Passengers in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, CA (January 25, 2019) – A driver struck the rear end of a bus in the afternoon on Thursday, injuring passengers in Anaheim. The January 24 accident occurred where Douglass Road and Katella Avenue intersect.

The time was roughly a bit before 3:00 p.m.

Reports say that the bus had been traveling east on Katella. A vehicle—described as a pickup truck—exited from the 57 Freeway northbound and struck the bus’ rear end when the vehicles were in the intersection, according to Jonathan Bailey. Bailey is a sergeant with the Anaheim Police.

Respondents arrived on scene and transported several people who had been on the bus to a hospital. Victims were reported to have suffered injuries that were described as moderate. According to police, a number of people said they had back pain.

Bailey said respondents also took the people who had been traveling in the pickup truck to the hospital. According to reports, respondents took 15 victims to the hospital. Their current condition is not known.

The identities of the people who were injured in the crash have not been reported. The identity of the bus driver is not known. Reports say that the person driving the pickup truck—identified as a woman, 29 years old and from Indiana—was suspected by police of driving under the influence. Jeff Munday, who is a sergeant, said the woman who drove the truck was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Reports say the pickup truck had been damaged in the front, and the bus had damage in the area of the right rear tire.

Investigators are examining the evidence, details, and information regarding the crash.
