Alleged DUI Driver Crashes into Traffic Control Assistant in Anaheim, Causing Serious Injuries
ANAHEIM, CA (March 11, 2019) – A collision involving a driver suspected of DUI injured a traffic control assistant with the Anaheim Police Department in the afternoon on Saturday. The March 9 accident occurred on La Palma Avenue.
According to reports, a woman who was working as a civilian traffic control officer had been stopped on La Palma, across from Servite High School. She was directing traffic when her vehicle—described as a marked city pickup truck—was rear-ended. The vehicle that hit her vehicle was described as a Toyota Tundra.
According to Daron Wyatt, who is a sergeant with Anaheim Police, the impact threw the traffic control assistant from her vehicle. The injuries she suffered were described as critical.
Respondents transported the woman—whose name has not been reported—to a trauma center in the area. Her condition was described as critical.
The person who was driving the Toyota that rear-ended the traffic assistant’s vehicle was identified as Jose Alfredo Alcantar Garcia, 34 years old and a resident of Placentia. Police arrested Garcia—who is believed to have been under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana—on suspicion of DUI, transportation of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine for sales, hit-and-run, and driving on a suspended license.
Reports say that police determined that a hit-and-run collision, which occurred roughly an hour before the crash involving the traffic assistant, had involved Garcia.
Investigators are examining the details and evidence in the two incidents.
