2 DUI Drivers Arrested In Multi-Vehicle Crash on 91 Fwy At Adams Street
RIVERSIDE, CA (October 13, 2024) — A tragic multi-vehicle accident on the 91 Freeway near Adams Street claimed the life of 21-year-old Alfredo Verganza-Lucas early Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to reports of the crash around 3:15 a.m. According to officials, a Jeep Patriot and a Kia Sportage collided, resulting in minor injuries to the occupants.
After The Initial Collision Things Only Got Worse From There
After the initial collision, the occupants of the Jeep exited their vehicle and were on foot on the freeway. An eastbound commercial tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the disabled Jeep but lost control, overturning in the process. A Toyota Camry, traveling behind the truck, also tried to take evasive action but struck both the Jeep and a pedestrian — one of the Jeep occupants, later identified as Alfredo Verganza-Lucas.
Tragically, Verganza-Lucas died at the scene.
Both Drivers of the First Cars That Crashed Were Arrested For DUI
Authorities arrested both the drivers of the Jeep and the Kia for driving under the influence. The driver of the Toyota was unharmed, while the tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries.
The CHP is continuing its investigation and urges anyone with additional information to contact the CHP Accident Investigation Unit at 951-324-7210.
