Alexis Garcia Arrested For DUI and Murder for Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed 2 Children in Rialto

Two Children Killed in Rialto Hit-and-Run; Alexis Garcia Arrested

RIALTO, CA (November 24, 2024)  — Police have arrested 28-year-old Alexis Garcia of Buellton in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of two young children Sunday night at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Riverside Avenue.

The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. when Garcia, driving a Ram truck, allegedly ran a red light and broadsided a Honda at the intersection, according to the Rialto Police Department. The Honda, driven by a 24-year-old woman, was carrying a 25-year-old male passenger and two toddlers. The impact pushed the Honda into a tow truck stopped nearby.

Sadly 3-year-old Neveah Flores and 4-year-old Alenia Flores Didn’t Survive

Tragically, the two toddlers, identified as 3-year-old Neveah Flores and 4-year-old Alenia Flores, did not survive. Both were strapped into car seats, but one of the children was ejected during the collision.

While the female driver of the Honda and the tow truck operator escaped injury, the male passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a trauma center for treatment.

Alexis Garcia Was Later Located And Booked On DUI and Murder Charges

Alexis Garcia fled the scene following the crash but was later located by police. He was arrested and booked on charges of DUI and murder.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the crash to contact the Rialto Police Department as they continue their investigation.

Our condolences go out to the family of Neveah and Alenia Flores.

Why It Is Important To Be Extra Careful When Driving During The Holiday Season

Driving during the holiday season requires extra caution due to several factors that increase the risk of accidents:

  1. Higher Traffic Volume: The roads are often busier as people travel to visit family, shop, or attend holiday events, leading to congestion and increased chances of collisions.
  2. Weather Conditions: Depending on the region, winter weather can bring snow, ice, rain, or fog, all of which make driving conditions more hazardous by reducing visibility and road traction.
  3. Distracted Driving: Drivers may be preoccupied with holiday-related stress, to-do lists, or even distractions from passengers, which can impair focus on the road.
  4. Fatigue: The busy holiday schedule often leads to longer trips and less sleep, increasing the risk of drowsy driving accidents.
  5. Impaired Driving: Holiday celebrations can involve alcohol consumption, leading to a higher likelihood of impaired drivers, like Alexis Garcia, on the road.
  6. Increased Pedestrian Activity: During the holidays, more people are out shopping or attending events, which increases pedestrian traffic and the potential for accidents.
  7. Rushed Driving: Many drivers are in a hurry to complete errands or reach destinations, which can lead to aggressive driving behaviors like speeding or unsafe lane changes.

Being extra careful—by staying alert, allowing extra travel time, and practicing defensive driving—helps ensure a safer holiday season for everyone on the road. Don’t be an Alexis Garcia.
