1 Critically Injured in Long Beach 4 Car Pile-Up

Long Beach, CA – One person remains in a coma after a four car accident near the Long Beach-Signal Hill border on Sunday.

At about noon a Honda Element SUV began a chain-reaction car collision that affected three other vehicles: two sedans and a small Budget rental truck. One of the sedans, being driven by a woman was traveling east on Spring Street. Her vehicle was the second vehicle colliding with the three vehicles traveling west. All of the cars were totaled.
Long Beach and Los Angeles County fire department responded to the scene. Jaws of Life were used to free the woman from her vehicle. The woman was transported to Long Beach Memorial Center with life-threatening injuries where she remains in a coma. They transported four other victims to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries where they have been released. Two people received minor injuries. They were treated on the scene and released.
Long Beach and Signal Hill police departments responded to the scene. They are currently investigating the accident and the driver of the small SUV, who may have been driving while intoxicated.
