At least 3 people were injured in Costa Mesa on Monday evening when an SUV spun out of control and crashed into a sign and a utility pole. Police and fire crews responded to the call at about 4:30 PM. The collision occurred on Fairview Street, just south of Merrimac Way. The vehicles involved were a Chevrolet pickup, a Honda Pilot SUV and a station wagon. After the collision, one of the vehicles hit a speed-limit sign on the side of the road, before crashing into a telephone pole. The SUV and the pickup were heavily damaged and crews had to cut the drivers out of their cars before transporting them to trauma centers. The station wagon sustained minimal damage to its front-end and the driver was not taken to the hospital by paramedics. It has not yet been determined if the rainy weather played a role in the crash, but authorities suspect that the slick roadways may have been a factor in the vehicle losing control. Parts of the surrounding road were closed while crews worked to clean up debris and remove the vehicles.
