2 Officers Injured In Crash

2 Officers Injured In CrashTwo police officers were seriously injured in a crash Friday. According to authorities, the crash occurred when their Los Angeles School Police Department patrol vehicle collided with a commercial dump ruck near several schools in Sun Valley.

The crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. It occurred in the 8500 block of Arleta Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crash occurred near Richard E. Byrd Middle School, Francis Polytechnic Senior High and Robert H. Lewis High School. The two officers who were injured were responding to an assistance call when the crash happened, according to investigators said.

The officers were initially listed in critical condition in a  L.A. school police Chief Steven Zipperman stated in a tweet. Later the officers’ condition was later upgraded to stable, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Joel Morales.

Both officers names were not immediately released.  They were conscious and talking as they were being treated for various non life-threatening injuries, said Zipperman.

The patrol vehicle, involved in the crash, suffered major damage to the front end and the doors of the car had been taken off, according to aerial video from the scene. The dump truck driver declined medical treatment, according to fire officials.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
