PALM SPRINGS, CA (September 9, 2024) – A 31-year-old man, Ted Arnold Meeker, faces multiple charges after stealing a rideshare vehicle and crashing it near Tahquitz Canyon Way and Farrell Drive on Monday, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
The incident began around 4:17 p.m. when Ted Arnold Meeker, a resident of San Francisco, booked a ride-hailing service in Downtown Palm Springs. During the ride, Meeker reportedly became aggressive, kicking the front seat and assaulting the driver. Following a struggle, the driver managed to exit the vehicle, and Meeker took off with the car.

Police were quickly alerted to the incident. Not long after, officers located the stolen vehicle with Ted Arnold Meeker behind the wheel, swerving uncontrollably near the intersection of Tahquitz Canyon Way and Farrell Drive. Meeker eventually collided with a parked vehicle in a nearby construction area.
After attempting to flee the scene on foot, Ted Arnold Meeker was apprehended by officers and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, where he is being held on $10,000 bail.
