Oceanside DUI Rollover Crash Kills Passenger
OCEANSIDE, CA (August 22, 2024) — A late-night crash on Highway 76 in Oceanside claimed the life of a passenger and led to the arrest of Dejhaun Jones on DUI-related charges. The fatal accident occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, just east of Loretta Street.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, 20-year-old Dejhaun Jones of Oceanside was behind the wheel of a BMW sedan when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. The impact of the crash ejected the passenger from the vehicle, resulting in major injuries, including severe head trauma.
Dejhaun Jones’ Passenger Was Pronounced Dead at Scripps La Jolla Medical Center
Paramedics responded quickly and transported the passenger, a 20-year-old resident of Oceanside, to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center. Despite efforts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead at 3:18 a.m. on Friday. Authorities are withholding his identity until his family has been notified.
Dejhaun Jones, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, was arrested at the scene. He now faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
