Bakersfield, CA (November 14, 2023) – Tragedy unfolded on Friday evening, November 10, as a pursuit led to a fatal rollover crash on Chester Avenue, resulting in one fatality and injuries to five others.
Pursuit Commenced When Officer Attempted a Traffic Stop On Mt. Vernon Ave.
The incident commenced around 10:44 p.m. when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop for vehicle code violations in the vicinity of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Gateway Avenue. The situation escalated when a vehicle failed to yield, initiating a pursuit by law enforcement.
As the pursuit unfolded, the driver lost control of the vehicle in the 10 block of Chester Avenue, leading to a devastating rollover.
The driver, identified as an adult male, suffered major injuries and tragically succumbed to them at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office is currently withholding the identity of the deceased.

Five passengers, aged between 16 and 18 years old, sustained moderate injuries in the crash. Emergency responders swiftly transported all of them to local hospitals for necessary medical treatment.
