Santa Barbara, CA (August 19, 2023) – In a devastating turn of events, a fatal two-car collision occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, resulting in the loss of a man’s life and injuries to five individuals, including Maria Estella Suarez Jimenez.
Nissan Altima Veered Across The Double Yellow Lines and Head-On Into The Infiniti QX60
The incident unfolded shortly before 1:30 a.m. on August 19, close to San Antonio Creek Road in Santa Barbara. According to officials from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, a 2016 Infiniti QX60 was traveling eastbound on the roadway, maintaining a speed of approximately 55 mph. Concurrently, a 2020 Nissan Altima was proceeding westbound towards the Infiniti, with its speed yet to be determined.
Tragically, the driver of the Nissan veered across the double yellow lines, breaching into the eastbound lane and directly into the path of the Infiniti. The resulting collision was forceful, occurring within the eastbound lane of the road.
22 Year Old South Jacksonville, Florida Resident Was Driving The Nissan And Sucumbed To His Injuries At The Scene of The Crash
The immediate consequence of the collision was the fatality of the Nissan’s driver, a 22-year-old South Jacksonville, Florida resident, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Behind the wheel of the Infiniti was Maria Estella Suarez Jimenez, a 57-year-old resident of Oxnard. She suffered severe injuries as a result of the collision. Accompanying her were four passengers: Rosa Marie Suarez (69 years old), Ofelia Vargas Suarez (61 years old), Maria Suarez Garibay (75 years old), and Jaime Jimenez Suarez (53 years old). All occupants of the Infiniti, hailing from Oxnard as well, experienced varying degrees of injuries ranging from moderate to severe.
The injured parties were expeditiously transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medical treatment.
Presently, the role of alcohol or drugs in the accident remains uncertain. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively investigating the incident to ascertain the precise cause of the collision.
