Westminster Girl Struck and Killed at Goldenwest and 21st Street
Westminster, CA (January 9, 2023) – Early in the evening on Friday in Westminster, a three-year-old girl was struck and killed. The January 6 crash occurred in the area of 21st Street and Goldenwest Street.
The collision at Goldenwest Street and 21st street occurred at about 6:30 p.m., according to Commander Kevin MacCormick of the Westminster Police Department. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene and at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, the girl succumbed to her injuries.
Bautista Decastilla Turned Himself In To The Police
The driver, 26-year-old Bautista Decastilla of Westminster, “voluntarily came to the Westminster Police Department for an evaluation and to speak with investigators,” the Westminster Police Department said in a news release.
He was then arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license, police said.
“At this time, it does not appear that drugs or alcohol are a factor,” authorities added. It is also not known if anyone else was nearby when the girl was struck. Anybody who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Sgt. Anil Adam at 714-548-3770.
Responders worked to help the girl, and she was taken to Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The police department have only reported the girl died from the injuries she suffered.
She was identified only as three years old. Her family has not been identified in reports. Investigators are continuing to gather information and details regarding the crash, to understand how and why it happened.
