NEWPORT BEACH, CA (November 21, 2022) – On Sunday night in Newport Beach, a crash on Pacific Coast Highway killed a man, and injured two other people. The November 20 crash occurred in the 3300 block.
The time was roughly 8:00 p.m., Newport Beach Police said.
A vehicle–described as a Mercedes-Benz–was traveling on Pacific Coast Highway and heading west.
The Mercedes struck the back end of a box truck that was parked along the roadway, in an area between Riverside Avenue and Hoag Drive.
Responders pronounced the driver of the Mercedes deceased at the crash site.
His identity–including name, age, and city of residence–has not been reported.
Responders worked to free two passengers from the wreckage. Responders transported the two patients to Mission Hospital.
The types of injuries they suffered, and current conditions, are not known.
They were identified only as a female and a male. Their names, ages, and cities of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened, and they are gathering information and details for that work.
