Toddler Struck and Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in City Heights Area of San Diego, CA
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 27, 2022) – Early in the evening on Saturday in San Diego, a toddler was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. The September 24 crash occurred in the area of City Heights, on Redwood Street close to 39th Street.
The time was roughly 6:45 p.m., San Diego Police said.
Authorities suspect the child had walked into the roadway, according to reports. A vehicle–described as a SUV–which was traveling on Redwood Street and going eastbound, struck her.
The suspect driver fled the crash site.
Responders transported the child to a hospital in the area. She died in the hospital.
The girl was one year old.
Reports say witnesses reported the license plate of the vehicle suspected in the crash–described as a Toyota 4Runner–to police.
Authorities located arrested the suspect driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
The suspect was identified only as 45 years old. His name has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing to work on the crash. If anyone has information about the crash, the person can contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
